We are so busy these days just surviving with the increasing cost of living and continuing interest rate rises that quite often we only concentrate on one or two of the wellness factors which means that we are not living the full factors of the wellness cycle.

Exercise is just one part of your complete wellness. Exercise and nutrition falls under the factor of physical. Other factors include mental, emotional, social and environmental.

Exercise and nutrition are very important factors of the wellness cycle. Exercise does assist with other factors of wellbeing. For example, exercise has been proven to relieve stress and for some people, this is their time to analyse their own thoughts or look at their schedule and plan their day, which is part of the mental factor of wellness

Next factor is emotional. Having someone to talk to is so important, our brains often works in overtime and at the end of the day, it’s great to be able come home and download your day with them. By doing this, it allows you to relax and unwind as you have been able to in effect debrief your day and collaborate any issues, so your brain does not need to concentrate on these issues. Any feelings of stress or anxiety will lessen and you will feel better about yourself.

Social wellness is the ability to create healthy relationships. These positive relationships provide us comfort and can assist during difficult times and assist us to build resilience and ability to cope with life’s challenges. When we are so busy, it’s important that you make time for your family and friends and ensure that you are getting social outings.

Environmental wellness is your sense of safety, comfort and connection to your physical surroundings. It entails thinking about how you interact with your surroundings, community and yourself. Your home should be a place where you feel safe and comfortable. In Australia, we have been slowly loosing the sense of neighbourhoods with many of us not knowing our neighbours. We wave and smile to them in the street but how many of us are friends with the neighbours, chatting over the fence, inviting the neighbours over for a coffee or having a Christmas street party.

How many of us can say that we are living all the factors of the wellness cycle? In order to have complete wellness in our lives we have some work to do. We can always improve our lives and life’s meant to be a journey of personal development and growth.
