Wellness and Productivity

We are working longer hours, constantly connected to phones and emails and work is increasingly encroaching on personal life.
So why are employee wellness not a priority for many organisations? As an organisation, there are pressures with deadlines and funds but when are organisations going to realise that their employees are their biggest asset. Employees should be seen as an investment not an expense. Wellness plans are an important part of any organisations workplace health and safety policies and strategies however unfortunately many organisations haven’t understood this yet.
There are many benefits to become a healthy workplace which implements a wellness plan into their organisation. Benefits include a healthier employee who is more engaged and more productive which leads to lower absenteeism and lower staff turnover
The cost of recruitment of an employee is roughly $22,000. When you are consistently having staff turnover and consistently advertising roles your reputation as an employer also diminishes. So implementing a wellness plan and promoting a healthy workplace will actually attract and retain employees
Wellness plans also will foster a great organisational culture. We have seen that monetary compensation is not always the main drivers when employees are selecting to work at organisations, they are looking for other benefits, such as flexible working arrangements, gym memberships and other benefits.
I encourage all organisations and business owners to promote a healthy workplace and introduce a wellness plan into their organisation strategy. Implement it as part of your workplace health and safety policy and put it into the budget. The benefits of implementing the plan will lead to other savings in the budget and will foster a better organisational culture.
