Finding a gym that’s right for you

Oh my lord!!! My legs are like jelly, my arms feel like lead and I couldn’t be happier. That was the feeling I had yesterday afternoon when I finished my body pump class.

After 2 years since the last one, I was excited to get back into it and it was like riding a bike. I remembered how much I enjoy doing the classes.

So I have woken up this morning and my legs and arms are still sore, but that’s how I know that the muscles are working. I must be a sucker for punishment as I’m booked in this morning for another 45 mins of body pump.

Going to the gym can be daunting for many but it is really important to find a gym that’s right for you. I have recently changed gyms. The first one was a chain. I would walk in and barely get a hello from the people behind the desk, if there was anyone there at all. My new gym, I instantly felt comfortable. It is an independent gym, the staff are so nice, friendly and welcoming. The desk is manned from early in the morning to later in the evening. This gym there is a sense of community.

That’s my preference for a gym. To be in a community, to make friends and to get to know the staff who are genuinely interested in your journey. Because fitness is a journey and I have learnt over the years, you can’t do it alone. Well you can but your far more likely to achieve results and stick to it with a team behind you. Look at the no 1 tennis player Ash Barty. She always references her team when talking about her success in front of the media.

So you need to find a gym that’s right for you. How do you go about that then I hear you ask. Well the best way is by word of mouth. Ask your friends which gym they go to. Ask your friends if they can take you along for a trial session or walk into a gym and see what it’s like and what the staff are like. Depending on your preference, it will be the staff that makes your gym experience.

So the gym doesn’t have to feel daunting. You need to find the gym that’s right for you and that you feel comfortable in. Then once you do, commit. Get in there and join the classes and make friends and you will find your joy of working out. And best part of all, when your having fun and enjoying it, you will forget the time and soreness of your body.

Nows the time to find yourself a team and enjoy the gym.
