Intermittent fasting does work

We have all heard of intermittent fasting but does it really work? Well it sure does. After starting over a month ago and making other changes to my diet, the results are amazing.
I started doing the 16:8 fast where I eat from 12pm to 8pm and fast the other 16 hours. I have always been one not to eat breakfast, even though they say it’s the most important meal of the day. For some reason, my body does not like eating that early. So skipping breakfast was no issue for me.
I have also been a night eater through most of my adult life. So I use to not eat much during the day and then binge eat before going to bed. Again not good for your body. So intermittent fasting has stopped me from eating just before going to bed. I am an early riser so go to bed early around 9pm.
They say you can eat whatever you like while during your eating window however I still track my calorie intake and track my fasting through my fitness pal.
I have found that the fasting has decreased my appetite. I am also feeling fuller with less food and my portion sizes has decreased for lunch and dinner. I have also found I am not snacking as much.
I have also made some other changes while intermittent fasting. I have changed from milky coffees to long blacks as this doesn’t break the fast and I can still have my morning coffees. The other change I have made is to stop eating red meat. I now only eat chicken or fish for protein and a vegetarian based diet. Adding in legumes such as beans and lentils into the diet has ensured that I still get fibre.
Lastly, alcohol. We cannot cut out everything from our lives. There still has to be some pleasure. So now I only allow myself one night a week of alcohol and yes it gets tracked as part of my calorie intake and goes in the my fitness pal app.
To get good results, you also need to exercise. Now I know everyone is really busy and while I haven’t had time to do a gym workout for quite a while, I still do over 15000 steps a day during work.
So since I have started doing intermittent fasting and changing my diet, I haven’t lost a ton of weight however, when looking at the scales I go off body fat %. I’ve lost 5% body fat in a month. So I can definitely say it does work.
I feel lighter, healthier and now it’s a part of my life to stay.
