Should we be pushing for Nutritional information on Alcohol

So I was sitting down last night having an apple cider with some friends. I thought to myself, I wonder how many calories are actually in this. It then got me thinking, I wonder what other ingredients are in this. What preservatives are in it? Should we be pushing for nutritional information on alcohol or is that a bit of overkill? For someone like me who likes to look at the nutritional information on food to ensure that I am keeping my calories down, having an alcoholic drink is a treat for me. Normally, I do not drink during the week. I allow myself a few drinks on the weekend when socialising with friends. So I think i am pretty good when it comes to my alcohol in take, but if there was nutritional information on the bottles, would it make me re-think my drink of choice. For instance, How much sugar is in cider. I am thinking quite a lot. But without the nutritional information, we would never know just how much. I could be horrified to learn that there is enough sugar in a bottle of cider to be my total weekly in take of sugar and then I am increasing that every time I grab another one. Would adding nutritional information on the bottles really necessary? Well I say YES. In an age where obesity is increasing at an alarming rate and the population is aging, health and fitness needs to become front and center in everyone’s life. It is very interesting as many people when trying to stay fit and healthy, will watch what they eat. They will count calories, they will look at nutritional information on food labels, however, no one considers what they drink. So I think its time for nutritional information to be put on bottles of alcohol so we can see what we are really drinking.
