Why do we revert back to old habits?

So all my previous blogs have been talking about changing habits and sticking to them. I have used the words self discipline and self control, but why is it that we always seem to revert back to old habits the moment that you stop thinking and get out of the routine.
Routine. Is the most important thing in our life to ensure that we stay on track with our fitness goals. When I’m in a routine, I can achieve amazing results. The moment I’m out of the routine, I start to slip a little.
Sometimes you have to look in the mirror and give yourself a good talking to. ” what the hell are you doing, why are you not exercising today”. We then make excuses as to why, try to reason with ourselves, however, excuses will not achieve results, they hinder them.
So next time you feel yourself slipping into old habits, have a good chat to yourself and ask, is it worth undoing all the hard work you have achieved to date. Don’t make excuses, be stronger than that. Look forward and go for what you want.
