We have all walked down the street and walked past a window of a bakery or a patisserie and felt a sudden urge for a chocolate eclair or maybe a custard tart. Well now keep on walking and do not stop at that window as being fit and healthy is about 70% of what you put in your mouth and 30% exercise. Nutrition is all about changing your bad habits and creating new healthy behaviours. It’s important when you start on your new healthy journey you go through your cupboards and throw out all the unhealthy food. Get rid of the packet of chips, the chocolate, the lollies, the meat pies, the sausage rolls etc. then go shopping and buy only healthy food, fresh fruit and vegetables. If you don’t have the bad food in the cupboard at home, it won’t be there to tempt you. It is important as well to control portion size of your meals. If you’re use to piling up your plates, don’t!!! If you have large dinner plates, swap it for a smaller plate or use a bowl to have your meal in. You need to train your brain to not eat such large portions. I’m not about starving yourself though. That’s a big no no. If you’re hungry in between meals your body needs food. But give it a healthy snack, such as a carrot stick and some hummus or a few nuts. Also increase your water intake. If you feel Hungry, have a glass of water or two, wait 5 minutes and see if your still hungry. Thirst can give the same message to the brain saying it’s hungry when it’s actually thirsty. Having a good nutritional plan and a daily exercise routine will aid you in reaching your fitness goals.
